100th Anniversary Logo Contest Results
The major upcoming milestone of the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th Anniversary called for an extraordinary symbol to commemorate it. Who better to create this icon than the Scouts themselves?
Beginning in the summer of 2007, Scouting youth from every corner of the country were invited to participate in a special contest to create the logo that would showcase the BSA 100th Anniversary.
Thousands of Scouts from all over the country answered the call for Anniversary logo contest entries. Each Scout submitted a thoughtful essay to accompany the design that outlined how the creation reflected the spirit of Scouting, and the 100th Anniversary theme of “Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey.” Here are some facts about the entries we received:
• More than 4,000 total entries
• Entries were received in four categories
> Tiger/Cub/Webelos Scout — more than 2,600 entries
> Boy Scout — more than 1,100 entries
> Venturer — more than 30 entries
> Eagle Scout — more than 100 entries
• Submissions were received from all 50 states — including overseas submissions from the
Scouts of overseas military families
After careful consideration by the Anniversary Logo Leadership team, the total entries were pared down to approximately 500 semifinalists. From there, a panel of 11 select judges scored the semifinalists to provide input on determining the category and overall winners.
From the outstanding and heartfelt work of many Scouts, we have selected the finalist entries that will become part of Scouting — and American — history. We are in the process of contacting winners and making that announcement - hopefully by the end of February. Sorry for the suspense - stand by!
